What Do UI and UX Designers Do?

Jasim Islam

They create functional and aesthetically pleasing digital products such as websites, mobile apps, dashboards, and software with the help of UI and UX designers.

But their roles are different:

  1. UX Designers (User Experience Designers)
UX designers concern themselves with how a product feels and how it is used. Apparently, it is the job of the to ensure that the product is :
  • Easy to use
  • Solves the user’s problem
  • It allows wine to be poured as easily as beer, and it has become very popular.
Key tasks of a UX designer:
  • User research (surveys, interviews)
  • Developing user personas and user journeys
  • Information architecture (structuring content)
  • Wireframing (basic page structure)
  • Prototyping and user flow design
  • Usability testing and iterating through feedback
Put more simply: UX designers design how the app or site works, the strategy and logic behind it.

2. UI Designers (User Interface Designers)

UI-designers, concentration on product1 look and feel. They create the visual aspects that users engage with.

Key tasks of a UI designer:
  • Creating buttons, icons, fonts and color palettes
  • Developing the design for the desktop, tablet and mobile
  • Building design systems
  • Experience with Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch.
  • Creating interactive prototypes
In non-euphemistic terms: The UI designer makes the product beautiful, a little branded and visually understandable.

Are UI and UX Designers the Same?

Yes! A lot of people (me included as freelancer) work as both UI and UX designers (at least in small teams or freelance projects)

Real-World Example:

When creating a mobile app:
  • A UX designer plots how a user will navigate from one page to the next and validates that it solves user needs.
  • A UI designer ensures those screens have a modern, user-friendly, on-brand appearance.

If you’re planning to design a website or app, or want to understand how professionals approach UI/UX, I also offer services as a Figma-based UI/UX designer on Fiverr — feel free to check my gig for examples and guidance:
